Less is More

Most of us work very hard to ensure our families are well taken care of and attain or maintain a certain standard of living, normally defined by how much we visibly accumulate. Yet how many of us take as much care of our minds and the number of thoughts we create? Too few give value to this wonderful personal challenge, perhaps because it is hard to measure, and therefore hard for others to admire.

Raja Yoga Meditation is the mastery over the mind. Considered as one of the highest forms of yoga, in India it has been practised for several centuries. The purpose is not to stop our thoughts; rather, it is to be able to create fewer thoughts, and ones of the highest quality. Quantity is usually created in times of chaos or confusion. A qualitative thought is achieved through a silent pause.

If you consult an interior designer they would suggest that 'less is more'. To fill every corner of your home with objects, carpeting or seating would not create the ambience and space the soul seeks. Creating space has greater importance on a mental and metaphysical level, for space brings to mind freedom – no walls, borders, boundaries, just an open horizon. Hence many of us desire to live in front of oceans, lakes or gardens.

In our fast-paced world this suggestion must seem outpaced by reality, but our greatest thinkers, artists and athletes knew its value in their pursuit of perfection. Focus brings clarity, which in turn opens the doors for solutions to enter our consciousness from the subconscious. With focus we regain inner trust and make inner space where others struggle to breath.

This week take stock and check your greatest energy source – your thoughts. Give your thoughts rarity value by refusing to give room to clutter, to inessential mental furniture. Create moments of space for yourself and pregnant pauses in your thinking and you will be amazed at the creativity that emerges. The change in the interior décor of your mind will give you a feeling of space as well as comfort.

Om Shanti

Is Your Relationship Virus Protection Up To Date?
Although most people do very well with run-of-the mill daily interactions, unless you come from a family skilled in this arena, or have connected with mentors along your way, you are probably frustrated and flustered when a difficult person or situation crosses your path. And, with the holiday season revving into high gear, the challenges become more frequent and complex. Here are some straightforward guidelines and strategies that can help you navigate these choppy waters.
First, some core principles. We accept as undisputable fact that there will always be technology demons waiting to pounce, and we all know (or should!) some basic caveats -- never open an attachment from a strange e-mail address, don't answer phishing or spam marketing messages, be cautious of the web sites you visit and the personal information you share. Similarly, here are three of the essential, basic guidelines for managing relationships:
1. Generally, everyone's behavior is habitual and unconscious. Most of it is not directed specifically at us, so don't take it personally.
2. The only things we can change are our own beliefs, behaviors, language, self-talk, and attitudes.
3. Stop wishing people were different, and accept them as they are. If you set out to try to change someone else, you'll be sorely disappointed.
In the same way we have a technology protection plan -- spam filtering programs, anti-virus software, spyware scans – it's useful to develop a personalized strategy to prepare ahead of time for the inevitable challenges we'll be facing. For example, in order to take a stand with the person who won't take "no" for an answer, we may need to know that there are three ways to respond to a request -- we can agree, decline or make a counter offer. It will also be useful to understand that saying "no" doesn't require an explanation, and that there are many polite yet firm ways of sticking to our boundaries. We can become more aware of our self-defeating beliefs about a person or circumstance, and therefore have a greater variety of choices as to how we'll respond more effectively the next time around.
Just as we shore up our technical defenses, and make sure we're ready for the next new virus, by becoming aware of our communication options we're updating our relationship software so that we can consistently create more harmonious, productive and satisfying interactions.
Where is your greatest communication challenge -- what people or circumstances repeatedly agitate, annoy or frustrate you? What do you need to help you change the outcome next time around?

Self Hypnosis Cd Recordings
The purpose of this article is not to offer an opinion about the efficacy of hypnosis as used by any hypnotherapist. The BMA has long since acknowledged its place as a useful psychological intervention method.
Furthermore, self hypnosis is being taught to expectant mothers with amazing results to help reduce any discomfort during childbirth. Dentists may use it to either help with a patient's dental phobia or to help reduce the use of chemical anaesthesia.
It seems that the issues, problems and ailments that hypnosis help with is endless.
Duncan McColl, an experienced hypnoanalyst has captured the full potential of self hypnosis in a series of amazing recordings. I say, series but this is really an understatement. He has over 600 different recordings aimed at specific problems.
Judging by the testimonials he receives, he has developed an almost miraculous knack of knowing (maybe I should say insight) of how to release people from the most stubborn and debilitating psychological and physiological burdens.
Duncan has a way with words you might say and has the most comforting and yet encouraging of voices too. He has used his hypnoanalytical skills and experience to create self hypnosis recordings that also include principles from behavioural science, Zen, Sufism, and esotoric Christianity.
Duncan refers to his recordings as "Conscious Self Hypnosis" and some of these will be the subject of articles to come.
